Project Possibilities
for
My Louisiana Sky
·Fashion of 1950s – Do research on
different types of clothing for this period. Find examples of what adults
and young girls and young men, might have worn in the 1950s. Use you
findings to make a Power Point, models, drawing or painting, or fashion
show.
·Make a Video - Work with a few
classmates to make a television script of a suspenseful scene from the
book. Before you start writing, discuss any scenes you have seen on
televisions shows or in films. What makes these scenes interesting and
dramatic? Determine which roles to stress in the scene and which words to
emphasize. You may alter the novel’s dialogue if it needs to be more
forceful for an oral presentation. Choose roles and rehearse the scene
several times. Then video the scene and upload to YouTube.
·Storm Tracker– Visit the website
www. watch.com/hurricane to view images of hurricanes. Research Hurricane
Audrey and share your findings with the class in a Power Point.
·Civil Rights – Then
and Now
- In the 1950s, most southern states practiced segregation. Learn more
about one of the following topics and share your research in a PowerPoint
or skit.
Jim Crow Laws
Civil Rights Act of 1957
Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Boycott
Brown vs. Board of Education - May 17, 1954
School desegregation in Little Rock, Arkansas
·Weather Lore – Lonnie relies on
different signs in nature to help him predict the weather. These sayings
were handed down from generation to generation. Research several of the
following sayings for your report:
If a groundhog sees
its shadow on Feb. 2, will we have six more weeks of winter.
If animals have a
thick coat of fur in autumn, it means it will be a very cold winter.
You can tell the
temperature by counting the cricket's chirps.
If birds migrate south
earlier, does it mean we will have an early winter?
A ring around the moon
brings rain.
AND... Your hair will
grow back faster if you cut it on a full moon day:)
·1950sTelevision – Research several of
the following shows to find out what TV was like in the 1950s. How has TV
changed over time?
Bonanza
Father Knows
Best
Lassie
Dragnet
The
Honeymooners
I Love Lucy
Howdy Doody Leave it to
Beaver
The Ed Sullivan Show
Music of the 1950s - Research a famous musician from the 1950s.
Famous Movies or Actors of the 1950s - Aunt Dorie Kay and Tiger travel to Alexandria to
see Funny Face starring Audrey Hepburn. Choose a famous actor or movie
to research.
Your
project will be graded as follows:
Effort
– 50 points
Creativity
– 25 points
Knowledge
of Topic – 25 points
Total
Possible Points – 100
REMEMBER!!! If you are
doing a Power Point, there is a 25 word maximum per slide. Most slides
should include a photo or graphic.
EVEN
MORE IMPORTANT!!! You MUST include a slide with the URLs of websites that
your information came from. You may turn the same information in on a piece
of paper if you are not making a Power Point or using Movie Maker.
